In Death, Wine

Cemeteries are strange places, sacred but unsettling. For most of us, a place to avoid except to remember our own loved ones, and even then we probably don't do that as much as we should. That's why I was fascinated and heartened by the story of a California cemetery that planted grape vines as a cheaper alternative to grass a decade ago, and have found that the resulting wine is actually good enough to sell! I've long been fascinated with the idea of putting grape vines in unconventional places, so maybe this is a small step towards grape vines being incorporated into living buildings and public spaces.
